If you have questions about ESD flooring, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few inquiries that we often hear from our Michigan customers:
What is ESD flooring?
Any motion from walking across a floor to swinging one’s arms can cause a dangerous buildup of static electricity. The discharge of that electricity can cause a spark, and in certain environments, that spark could cause huge problems. ESD flooring provides a surface that helps to prevent the buildup of static electricity.
How long does ESD flooring last?
While some dissipative vinyl products require recoating at certain intervals with an anti-static floor finish, our ESD flooring options typically provide a long term of service.
Can you install new ESD flooring over my old flooring?
It can be difficult to give a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The old floor should be in good condition and bonded completely to the sub floor. Sometimes the decision about whether or not to install new flooring over old is dependent on whether the old floor contains asbestos.
Can a conductive floor present a danger to people working with electrical equipment?
EDS flooring with a resistance to ground of over 25,000 ohms is typically safe in a hospital or factory environment. Taking into account the highest voltage and current of any electrical equipment in use in a particular environment helps us to determine the appropriate resistance to ground of a flooring surface.
