How to Maintain Your Epoxy, Polyaspartic, and Polyurea Floor Coatings

Like any flooring—carpet, laminate, or linoleum—high-performance floor coatings (epoxy, polyaspartic, polyurea, MMA, or urethane) need regular maintenance to perform their best and last for years.

Keep Your Floor Clean

Regular sweeping and mopping based on your traffic patterns is the foundation of floor coating maintenance. A dirty floor can significantly shorten the lifespan and dull the appearance of your coating, because surface dirt increases friction and accelerates wear.

Tip: Wait at least 3 days after installation before your initial cleaning to allow the coating to fully cure.

Using a Machine Scrubber

If you use an auto scrubber, take care to not use pads that are overly aggressive. Xtreme recommends red pads for most coatings. Begin at a low rpm and work your way up as you go until you find the ideal speed for both your scrubber and floor.

Rinse Thoroughly After Cleaning

The key to a brilliant-looking floor isn’t just mopping or auto-scrubbing—it’s following up with a thorough rinse using clean water. This removes leftover detergent residue that can dull the finish over time.

For best results on coated or polished concrete floors, we recommend Xtreme Clean, a neutral-pH cleaner designed specifically for high-performance floor coatings.

  • ✅ Pre-measured pumping for mop buckets and scrubbers

  • ✅ Gentle yet effective formula

Mix with clean, warm water for optimal results.

Chemical Resistance and Spill Care

Xtreme’s floor coating systems offer high chemical resistance, but a few precautions help protect your finish:

  • Test new cleaners first. Apply any new cleaner to a small, inconspicuous area to confirm it won’t harm the surface.
  • Wipe up spills immediately. Some liquids, if left sitting, can etch, discolor, or dull the finish.
  • Consult the chemical resistance charts before introducing any new substance to your floor.

Protect Your Floor from Scratches

To preserve the appearance and lifespan of your floor coating:

  • Place felt pads (or similar protectors) under tables, chairs, and any items with metal or hard plastic legs
  • Never drag objects with sharp edges across the floor
