Project Description
VCT Removal & Concrete Polishing at Holland Manufacturer
Holland, MI
BACKGROUND: This Holland based auto manufacturing company wanted to update their facility with polished concrete floors. The area previously had VCT installed. They contacted Xtreme Engineered Floor Systems because they were looking for a local contractor that could remove the VCT, excelled at polishing concrete, and could complete the project in a timely manner.
APPLICATION: Xtreme utilized our fleet of demo / removal equipment to remove the existing VCT tile in this Holland auto parts manufacturer’s plant. After removal, our experienced crews started the concrete polishing process with our Prep/Master diamond grinders. Once finished going through the diamond steps, and densification process, our X-Guard was applied and burnished for added stain resistance.
This floor has a very unique look and a lot of character because of what is known as “Ghosting”. Ghosting often happens after polishing concrete that previously had VCT on it. While the VCT is down, water,, moisture, and other things are able to migrate through the voids between each tile. This process over time will actually change the chemical makeup of the concrete and create a different look in these areas. Once the concrete is polished, the lines can often times show through very clearly giving a grid type pattern.
