When a boating enthusiast built a new storage facility in Grand Haven, Michigan for his prized yacht, he was looking for a unique mix of blue hues to replicate the lake’s natural, shimmering surface.
Xtreme Engineered Floor Systems of nearby Hudsonville, Michigan was brought in for the project. With over 23 years of installations covering more than 50 million square feet, the company knows floor coatings like few others.
Patching and smoothing uneven spots
As a first step, the Xtreme crew mechanically profiled the floor using grinders and a shot blaster. To create a smooth, pit-free surface, they also cut out joints and patched or filled any low areas.
Next up? Priming the floor with 6.0 HP Epoxy from V-8 High Performance Floors. Pigmented in white, it was applied with steel trowels to fully seal the floor and prevent outgassing.
The Xtreme team then added a base coat to the 2,500 sq. ft. floor. Once again, the material of choice was V-8 6.0 HP Epoxy, also pigmented in white. It ensured the surface was smooth before the application of the final coat.

Then, the finishing touch was the installation of the platinum coat, using V-8 6.0 HP Epoxy; However, this time Xtreme tinted it with two different colors of blue. The product was squeegeed out using an artist’s eye, and manipulating the two, blue-colored resins to create a multi-hued floor. It captured the lake’s appearance from a boat deck on a sunny day.
