Autocam’s newest plant
When Autocam Medical of Kentwood, Michigan wanted a new white epoxy floor for one of their facilities, they knew just the right resource for the job: Xtreme Engineered Floor Systems of nearby Hudsonville, Michigan.
Eight years earlier, the global maker of surgical implants and other highly engineered products put Xtreme to the test. They had them apply their V-8 Hybrid XT (Xtra Tough) resinous floor coating in white to an 8,000 sq. ft. production space to see if it could maintain its appearance.
Since then, the V-8 Hybrid XT in white has been their product of choice. It’s the only coating that has not “yellowed” over time. It is still white!
Given this success, Xtreme got the go ahead from Autocam to install a solid white floor on the company’s new, 80,000 sq. ft. facility.
The team started by mechanically profiling the floor using grinders and a shot blaster. This process abrades or roughens the surface to make sure any new coating adheres strongly. At the same time, the crew cut out joints and patched or filled any low areas to ensure a level floor.

Priming the floor would be key. Xtreme reached again for Hybrid XT from V-8 High Performance Floors. This resinous floor coating is versatile, durable and easy to install. What’s more, it will not yellow.
For the primer application, the Xtreme installers used the steel-trowel method to make sure the floor was fully sealed to prevent outgassing.
The next layer? A 16-mil coat of Hybrid XT resinous floor coating pigmented in white. This coat achieved the glass-smooth finish in non-yellowing, solid white that the client had specified.

“Since this installation, the medical device maker relied on us exclusively for floor applications, including their 10,000 sq. ft. facility in Indiana.”
